the ideal is that all the alcohol companies go broke because nobody buys their products.

Do you feel that there is no legitimate and non-abusive place for their products?

I would still maintain that producing and selling alcohol - providing a good which is used and enjoyed by many who do no damage to themselves or anyone else - cannot legitimately be construed as "causing" the misery that alcoholics inflict.

If one interprets the provision of the means to a choice as "causing" the grim results of the abuse of that choice, government interference becomes inevitable. If you don't want that interference, it seems to me that you have to start the causative chain with the choice to abuse, not with the provision of the product.
