Paul Re <<N0 - YOU ARE WRONG.

I was wrong ONLY on the voltage - it is 1.6 volts and NOT 2.5 volts.>>

As you acknowledged you were wrong on your voltage guess. Its nice to see that you admitted to this fact.

You are also DEAD WRONG on your power dissipation numbers which you got from your "sources". At 600 MHz, maximum power dissipation is 50 W, not the 67.2 W which you foolishly got from multiplying 1.6 by 42. I thought you would have a better grasp of this issue. Here are the specs according to AMD:

Maximum power dissipation for 500, 550, 600, 650MHz is 42, 46, 50, and 54W

Typical power dissipation for 500, 550, 600, 650MHz is 38, 41, 45, and 48W

<The ATHLATE pulls down 42 AMPS (Max) at 1.6 volts and 600 MHz., for a max power of 67.2 WATTS >.

This 42 amps may be a peak transient current. They claimed only 54W in the table I saw. Where did you see this number?

That's a big difference. Are you surprised?

The ATHLATE pulls down 42 AMPS (Max) at 1.6 volts and 600 MHz., for a max power of 67.2 WATTS .

Wrong. It's 50W max at 600Mhz (including 512K L2).

I have to say I'm a little disappointed at the lack of grace displayed by some of the Intel folks. AMD engineers did a fantastic job on the K7 and that should be acknowledged. Bravo!

Pitiable Paul, still does not understand that an instantaneous peak of 42 AMPS current draw at 1.6 volts does NOT equal 67.2 watts of RMS or thermal power dissipation.

Re: "I was wrong ONLY on the voltage - it is 1.6 volts and NOT 2.5 volts.

But I was DEAD RIGHT on the power - READ AMD's ELECTRICAL specs.

The ATHLATE pulls down 42 AMPS (Max) at 1.6 volts and 600 MHz., for a max power of 67.2 WATTS ."

You should be happy. I can't believe how much FUD you generated with
this comment. But you are wrong.

The AMD documents you reference clearly state the MAX power is 50W at 600MHz.
The regulator design document clearly states 42 amps allows for future processors.
