VERAMARK INTRODUCES INTERNET MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE Business Editors PITTSFORD, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--August 11, 1999--Veramark Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:VERA) today introduced VeraNet(TM), a Windows NT software application designed to monitor and manage Internet and intranet bandwidth usage. VeraNet software has been integrated with Veramark's industry-leading telemanagement products to provide IT and telecom managers with a consolidated view of all network usage and costs including voice, data, network and multimedia traffic on a single report. This consolidated strategy substantially reduces the cost and complexity of managing enterprise networks using discrete software products. VeraNet will later be available as a stand-alone application supported on Windows NT platforms. Shipments of VeraNet software will begin during the 4th quarter of 1999. A stand-alone version will be available for customer shipment in the 1st Quarter of 2000. Pricing will be comparable to similarly sized Veramark telemanagement software products. VeraNet performs its job non-intrusively and has no impact on network performance. It reads log files from network elements, such as Checkpoint Technologies' Firewall-1 device, and consolidates that data with information received from other devices in a centralized, high-performance database. Based on the time of day when each network transaction occurs, VeraNet will calculate a charge using a "per kilobyte" rate determined by the system administrator. These charges can then be equitably allocated to users and cost centers responsible for network traffic. Unauthorized use of corporate Internet and email facilities can be very costly. Lost productivity from workers monitoring personal investments, sports scores, weather broadcasts and lotto results can amount to several thousand dollars per year per employee. Furthermore, a single worker can cripple the performance of a LAN by monitoring a news broadcast in real time using streaming multimedia software, or by downloading an MP3 formatted music CD. A series of "Top 20" VeraNet reports helps managers quickly identify the busiest Web surfers, the most often visited Web sites and the top consumers of network resources. All VeraNet reports can be easily retrieved by any authorized manager using a Web browser. Reports can also be emailed directly to users to remind them of their monthly network usage. IT managers will use VeraNet to improve network usability and quality of service. Finance managers will use it to elevate the visibility of network usage and better control overall network costs. Legal and human resources managers will be able to better demonstrate their "due diligence" efforts to protect worker rights to freedom from harassment resulting from inappropriate use of email or material downloaded from offensive Web sites. MIS will be able to monitor compliance with corporate "appropriate network usage" policies. David G. Mazzella, Veramark President and CEO, commenting on the announcement said, "Management of Internet, LAN and WAN traffic is a natural extension of Veramark's leadership in managing voice network traffic for the past 16 years. VeraNet addresses an emerging corporate requirement, and we have a decided advantage in this business. More than 35,000 firms already rely on Veramark telemanagement solutions for network cost control and we intend to enhance a high percentage of these customers with this new capability. They're eager for innovative, high performance tools like VeraNet to expand the effectiveness of their control to IP networking. We're going to move rapidly to bring the benefits of network bandwidth management to small and large enterprises through new eCommerce initiatives, the vigorous involvement of our premier distribution channels and our own telemarketing team. We also plan to expand our portfolio of partners forming new bridges to corporate IT managers. It is our belief that this market presents tremendous potential for Veramark." Veramark Technologies, Inc. is engaged in the design, production and servicing of cost management, billing and customer systems for users and providers of convergent network services in the global market.
