Bauxite is by no means in short supply, it is a common product of weathering in tropical climates. Jamiaca has for years been the worlds largest source. To process bauxite into aluminium requires a lot of electricity, in essence the export of aluminium is more the export of electricity in a metalic form.

I understand Aluminum is produced from bauxite and the US has a very limited bauxite supply. I was speaking more of the production of aluminum.

And last I checked, far more of it is used in weapons.

I fail to see how you answered my question? I fail to see how automobiles are widely used in the direct support of our national security.

If the US were to lose it's standing as the number one producer of aluminum castings and rolled plate how could we stay the world military power? I find rather few solid steel planes.

As "an army travels on it's stomach", if we lose our position (to Brazil or others) as the major producer of food & fiber can we ever again expect to do more than simply protect our shores?

Will those who have never mined coal, iron, or copper be as good at it as those who have a high level of experience when again our nation needs to use those natural resources?

Will technology alone be able to turn pizza delivery, hamburger flippers, tele-marketers, & stock brokers into master machinists?

Is this current "best economy in history" just another way of selling our future as a nation?
