Interesting Conversation re: HP's e-services...

So, a client of mine is a significant partner of HP. I ask one of my client-side contacts, "So, what the heck is this HP e-services stuff really all about?"

He paused and says, "Well, they say you don't have to buy stuff anymore. If you want a drink of water, you don't buy the lake, you pay by the drink."

I thought... how interesting?

Side note: Our man George Gilder is one of the Prophets of Boom featured in this month's Wired. He says nothing about Wave. But, it is good to see him.

Best Regards,

And So It Begins...

AltaVista has announced plans to provide FREE ISP service... just so long as you don't close the ad banner.

So begins the beguine. Yahoo is next. Or Excite. Clack, clack, clack go the dominos.

And, with each that falls, more pressure on 75% of AOL's revenues. And, with more pressure on AOL's revenues, the greater the need for new sources of revenue... and, well, you know the rest.

From a little slogging village... Best Regards,

c m

Sort of OT: One Look At The Future...

Here's Forbes Publisher Rich Karlgaard's latest column. It makes reference to Sun Microsystems' Bill Joy and--a-hem--George Gilder.
