GLW is one of the largest EDFA module vendors in the world. As JDSU also supplies EDFA modules (that incorporate various JDSU components), I'm assuming this is the nature of the shift.

One of the reasons UNPH ramped up production so much in 980s a year ago was to meet the requirements of the large Corning contract. Corning was then going to package the 980s into EDFAs and sell them to LU for the WaveStar. Now, LU looks like it will buy the EDFAs directly from JDSU.

And you're right, LU has been doing this for months. Its just now become visible to the stock market and hence yesterday's reaction by investors and analysts alike.
