My story is simple, I heard that PA was buying a lot of stock in GO something. My biggest problem was finding out what that GO something was. You have to remember, that I was brand new to this whole computer thing, so I didn't know where to start looking. In my search, I was sent to Seek, and knew this wasn't the right GO. I finally ended up on the GNET Yahoo message board, and figured out this was the one. Bought the stock, but still didn't know about SI. People on Yahoo kept talking about SI this and SI that, so I decided to find out what they were talking about. Came to SI and joined and the rest, as they say, is history. But I never did get my T-Shirt.... WAKE UP I'M DONE WITH MY STORY!!!

I can tell you the exact time that I first thought about buying GNET. It was after writing this post:

I guess BLUE really liked the link I put up there (check it out) and so he invited me to the techride board. I started following (but not buying) the stocks that the Techriders were discussing, and watched GNET go from 90/sh. to 199/sh. And never jumped. I was a little disgusted at myself for just sitting on the sidelines (although during this time I made a killing on ORCL which I bought the year before at 12/sh (split-adjusted)). Anyway, GNET began it's rapid descent, and when it dropped below 100/sh, I couldn't hardly stand it, so bought a ton at 97/sh (48.5 split adjusted). And the rest is history.

909's,
-Joe

1) #91. Could I PLEASE get a t-shirt? I'd wear it with such pride! (XL)

2) My story . . .

"Etrade does NOT suck!"

My first exposure to GNET was through the local newspapers. After keeping money in savings accounts for years (and earning virtually nothing) I was becoming increasingly agitated with all the articles reporting on explosive I-net stocks, and in particular, GNET. So I decided to set up an Etrade account and buy some GNET, which at the time was near it's $199 high. But I KNEW it would go much higher. Being uninitiated, I was sure that my account would be set up within hours. What I found out was that it actually took days, and during this time, GNET dropped daily. All this while, I was chomping at the bit, cursing Etrade, continuing to believe that GNET would skyrocket at any moment. Finally, my account was open and I took a small position, at 136. I watched it drop to $90, during which time I also discovered SI. Based on the help and insight I received from lurking on SI, I had the presence of mind to buy enough at $95 to lower my cost basis to $100.

The significance of this (seemingly trivial) story is that first experiences can make or break you. If I had bought near $199, I might still be waiting to make a profit, and the whole experience might seem rather dismal. But thanks to SI and Etrade, I have a better story to tell. I follow the "Etrade sucks!" thread, but you won't find me posting there - despite continual problems, they are the reason my first (and all-important) investment was a success!
