This is kind of long but it the only way to explain it. When I was getting started investing I was looking for a good broker for about 5 years but never found one so never ended up investing...you know most of those guys have no education to do what they do so I never trusted them..hey two guys I know who went to music school are brokers(Susan G that was Berkeley)...anyway so I invest my money in land instead and do ok but the market is doing great and I am missing out so I give my money to the father of someone who I work with at Merrill and he puts in these conservative mutual funds and charges me 7% and they do terrible so he retires and the money sits there forever making nothing so I run into a merrill broker at a party named cohen so I give him a shot as my name is levy so I tell him I want to go aggressive so he buys some stocks and they go no where so he says sell and we do and everything he said to sell doubles and everything we bought goes down 50% so not I am really not very happy so I get this blind call which I have gotten many from a broker wanting my business so instead of just saying no I listen and buy an IPO from him....well I know from nothing about stocks so I go on vacation and tell him I know IPO's can be volatile so if you need to sell ok so I come back and he sold and bought another and sold that and bought another and everything he did lost money....so I call him up and he gives me this lame story so I call his boss and tell him what happened and he fires the guy and gives me my money back.....so he says I am the boss around here and I can make you some money so I tell him to forget it and he calls me a month later and says he bought an IPO for a client and it doubled but the client is not available so he will sell it to me and I can double my money so i say yes and that starts me in with this guy who then says he has this internet stock IPO he thinks will be good so I buy a bunch of it because I had played around with the internet a bit and saw how thinks could be linked and thought that was cool...so that stock was GNET.....now that is known as stepping in for lack of a better SI friendly term DOGPILE......so the moral of the story I guess is keep at it... everyone gets the chance to be lucky soon or a later....and perhaps not listening to standard advise is the way to go.....Until GNET starting flying this spring to tell the truth I had no idea what it was...I only took a look to see what was so good....dumb luck....and now I use the web and gnet all the time and am learning so much from you guys about investing...win win win for me.
