steven - I'm assuming your question is SDLI vs. JDSU, not GBLX?

That is a long, long discussion, but suffice to say, both will do extremely well over the next 3-4 years. JDSU holds 60-65% of the 980 mkt, so my bet is with them. There a few technical differences between the products which I won't get into here, but again, both will do fine.

Regarding 980s and EDFAs - excluding the erbium-doped fiber itself, and some couplers, isolators and FBGs, the 980 (and 1480)is the MAIN component of an EDFA system. What do you think is the source of the amplification!? It is the 980 nm light that, in combination with the 1550 nm traveling down the fiber and the erbium element atoms, that excites and amplifies the transmission.

Regarding Corning and EDFAs, check their web site.
