Scott:

The way I always tell people is the following:

On a Macintosh, you can run Macintosh, Windows and Linux.
On a PC, you can sometimes run Windows.

Would you believe I have my iMac at home "Triple-booting" Mac, Win and LinuxPPC?

Works harder, crashes less, or not at all. My iMac has not crashed on me in months, that I can remember.

Scott- how about this approach:

iMac- you can figure out how to use it.

Emachine- if you can't figure out how to use it, it's a $400 doorstop (with no resale value) plus $21/month. Who is going to hook up what kind of printer? USB or parallel? Got drivers for that? You want a zip? What kind? USB, parallel (oops?) or SCSI. Who is going to hook it up for you? You sure you don't want the Imac?

Because it's really a $800 vs. $1100 choice. With the big question of "do you want to pay for ISP SERVICES 3 years in advance?" Well? I like to pay by the month, so if services disapoint, AMF!

Emachine- you sure you want to be using 56k phone hookup 3 years from now? What if cable or adsl gets as cheap as 56K?
Will it be Win2000 compatible? What is Win2000? Will you need it?

I agree that a rebate deal from an ISP would be a good thing for AAPL.

I just wish I knew what caused such a nice runup here.

<<if the eOne doesn't turn out to be a component frying, Windows locking piece of crap>>

Even if it was, people would still buy it. My brother bought an AMD PC for $500. The run o'the mill 350 Mhz variety bundled with Win98. He complains about it a lot, but he would still rather use that than the Centris he bought from a friend.

Despite the data he has lost when the drive did wierd things, he would still rather have the PC. He even spurned my offers to reinstall a more stable version of Win95 opting for the just past beta version of Win98.

Let's take this one more step. How about if you were an iBook salesperson? Easier sale v. eMachine?
