It didn't need one yesterday then it did. This morning it needed a password but it opened up again this afternoon - guess it closed again.

What's on there is still under construction but but it's relatively obvious what they're doing. If you haven't noticed Data Race has set up two new domains: onephoneline.com & onephoneline.net

It offers an unlimited usage ISP account with all the bells and whistles along with the functionality of BT for $19.95/month, free setup for a limited time. I assume you'd merely download the software client or they'd mail a CD. There are no charges for the incorporated phone line except for any long distance charges you incur.

It doesn't name the ISP (or the only ISP ???) that's going to be hooked up as a provider. A few things I really like:

1) It would be so simple to take orders and outfit or expand the number of ports at an ISP's existing equipment as demand necessitates.

2) It's really going to be great if they can penetrate those areas which have a shortage of copper such as rural areas and overcrowded cities.

3) If you look - you not only get Unlimited Internet Access with all the bells for the same or less than you currently pay but you also get an extra phone line absolutely free of charge. Shoot - a second line costs more per month than this!

This is one of those things that could catch on very quickly, especially if there's some help in putting on a big marketing campaign. ;-) Of course once it gets going "word of mouth" is going to be of immense help too.

Hmmm..... If the company announced a single large sale to ***** it would soon be forgotten until the next one comes along. With this as part of their business plan they could have press releases every day as new communities are deployed and the added publicity certainly can't hurt corporations' acceptance of "Big BT" as their choice for a remote access system.

A few mysteries still remain. This may only be a beta program involving only one or more cities although the signup form has a place for city/state etc. as well as area code for your phone #. It's possible that the site isn't supposed to be visible except to those they invite into the program and it just has a bug allowing us to see it from time to time.

Oh well, a lot of people have seen it now, chances are we'll be hearing about what their plans are soon enough.
