"Doesn't this scenario cause too much disharmony, heartbreaks and major disservice to the speedy roll out of cable modem?"

Jing- I believe there would be problems with that scenario. My future vision of ATHM didn't include being a dump pipe. I wanted much more. I was led to believe that the Excite/AtHome duo would develop into awesome. Sure, I really wanted Yahoo at the time, but felt that was unattainable. Excite was the best we could do.

I do use the Excite site often. My father and I use the voice chat and voice mail components. It is worth visiting the site for that alone.

I have TCI@Home, and agree that there is no big deal with the home page. I have only used it to locate time listings of movies at local theaters. Actually, it is a pretty cool thing and beats finding the start times in our local paper. Beyond that, it is not very enticing. They do have an interesting feature that allows you to seek online chat help. There are up to six or seven people that will provide assistance in a cool chat room setting. They are called agents. You have to see it to believe it. It is really weird, but helpful. The room was never busy when I stopped by.

I do miss my AOL page. I liked the stock quote and research feature, their map it system, and the mail feature that would let me know if AOL members read my e-mail. Those are a few of the things I liked about AOL. I am getting used to my Netscape browser, but I have to say I preferred AOL. There is a reason they have so many subscribers. People find it easy to use and beneficial.

The sweet thing about TCI@Home is that you have NO advertisements. I don't miss those pop-up ads. @Home also blocks those nagging e-mails trying to sell me something. To date, I have not had ONE e-mail from a company or individual selling something. That is worth something to me. My TCI@Home connection is also improving! I have not had to unplug the modem for a long time. They are obviously improving service. No outage for a long time either.:0)
