"Shorts sounding desperate on Yahoo thread."

HandsOn- What news is making them desperate? I would think their only desperation would be to get packed in time for their plane flight to Hawaii. All expenses paid of course from shorting ATHM. Hey, I don't fault anyone for trying to make a buck. I just hope they remember to give a little to their church/charitable organization.

HandPUMP. ATHM is headed for low 20's. The shorts arent covering, they arent desperate. And there is absolutely no need "for them to be careful" as you so charitably warned. Unless of course you're referring the possibility that they might drink too much in celebration of thier windfall profits.

Takeover rumors? laff. You musta selectively skipped the ML report in which management flat out denies this. And I quote:

"We also revisited a topic raised last week in
another article--the potential sale of
Excite@Home to Yahoo and AT&T (and its
cable partners). Management reiterated its
comments last week that such a transaction is
absolutely not under consideration. " ML, 8/11/99

And yes ML is still positive on ATHM, of course they underwrote this overvalued pig. Hint: there's a reason its called SELL side research. Hell, even GS (who underwrote EBAY) lists EBAY a buy and look where its now.

You must be looking to reduce your taxes. In which case feel free to buy some more ATHM, you'll find it even more attractively priced in the coming weeks.

While you're touting ATHM in the coming days and warning of the coming rout of the shorts, I have a little mental exercise for you: Divide ATHM's market cap by the number of subscribers it has and then figure out the nicest import car you can purchase with that amount. (keeping in mind that short side of ATHM would put you further on your way to owning that car).

btw: By 'institutional buying', are you referring to individuals who have been institutionalized?
