Unusual move by SGI just in advance of Seybold 8/30/99 ; 580MZ PowerPC

Perceptive info Web . SGI's announcement is a "Fire Sale" with a spin off that only makes them a minority partner ? Your article summarized:
====
" Given the fierce competition in the areas SGI has staked for itself, its unclear if SGI intends to be a long-term player in the marketplace -- or is tidying up in an effort to find a prospective buyer.

'Certainly that's a possibility that leaps to mind,'' Kunstler said of SGI's latest business plan. ''And they certainly have technology that's worthwhile.''
=====

IBM states its SOI process provides a 30% MZ uptick on existing dies and mentioned a 580mz PowerPC is on the way to AAPL .

Something triggered SGI's move early . My guess is IBM/MOT is providing a G4 for SJ's Seybold 8/31/99 Keynote which may be a "Wintel work-station" killer .

SJ , on behalf of Pixar , recently demoed something along these lines at Sun Valley to cable industry executives . Doubt he used SUNW equipment .

Buy back seems to be working and I guess that 1 million shares ($87 share value) placed on GS warrants (buy @ $75/shr for $12 warrant) found a market ;>)
