Sorry Dave, cant agree there.

You state some doctors feel that KERA is a less elegant and more difficult procedure than LASIK. How so? In my book (engineering background disclosure) "elegant" is in direct relation to ease of use or function.

What is more elegant - a half million dollar colossus of a machine where the doctor's input is limited to system set-up or a system that supports the hands-on, personal interaction doctors choose the field for in the first place?

Let's not even go into the portiblity of the two systems or the infrastructure required to maintain them. I dont see a Lasik facility traveling to remote villages anytime soon, but I think there will be such events in KERA's future.

In response to your implants viability long term, Intacs material has been used in the eye for years - read the information on the various websites.

Your acknowledgement of KERA being a 'nice' alternative for people are 'afraid' of lasers is missing the point. One of the strongest things in KERA's favor is the fact that should the patient not be satisfied with the quality of their vision (an important distinction from the ability to read an eye chart in a doctor's office) they can have the intacs removed and pretty much be returned to where they were. Kera is about as non-invassive as you can get when compared to the destruction of tissue Lasik offers.

The more advanced procedure is the one that offers better results; to more people, with less effort, has more flexibility, can be offered at a cheaper price. That to me is one elegant procedure.
