<And the MINIMUM price for Pentium /// is >$200 !>

Pricewatch quotes PIII-450 at $200 (down $3 in a day; 500s and 550s are down well over $10 in the last 24 hours). Guess whatever you want to guess about OEM prices but there is not much chance that Intel is getting more than $170 for this high (if not the highest) volume PIII.

PIII is getting squeezed between K6-3 and Athlon if haven't noticed!

RE <<Tejerk - Re: "On the contrary AMD is an easy double in the next 6 months...."

Why is it "easy" ?

AMD admitted that they won't even be PROFITABLE until some time next year.>>

Future profitability is what most concerns the markets. There are many companies with stock prices rising as I type this post who have yet to make a penny of net income.

As for AMD, Q 3 production in volume of the Athlon will provide half the double and by beginning of Q 4, AMD's guidance that breakeven is imminent will provide the other half.

RE <<Re: "And yet intc is discounting the hell of its low end chips and is starting to discount the PIII's as well in the higher low end (of course it does not have a chip to match the high end Athlon). How do you think they are going to come up with those higher margins and asps? I am sure, of course, that they will. "

I also am sure they will !

Remember - Intel's Pentium /// is being rapidly adopted - in contrast to AMD's Kmart 63.>>

Where did you get that bit of info.....from the intc newsletter?
I understand the only thing moving off the intc shelves is the celeron and that's because you get them free if you put the Intel Inside sticker outside! BTW you never explained how discounting prices = rising margins and asps.

RE <<And the MINIMUM price for Pentium /// is > $200!>>

So then I should ignore the talk of heavy discounting of the PIII?

RE <<By the way - did I mention that Intel is UP over $6 since "the fastest chip in all the land?" was stealth launched for the second time by AMD?>>

I am not surprised....its the classic PUMP by analysts to take advantage of the second half spurt intc is famous for; however watch out for the DUMP 'cause this year the PUMP is mostly hot air. In fact have you read M. Burstiner's latest article on this very issue; like I said before she has a way with words when she writes about intc. And then that D. Peck, first he trashes intc, then he says fairly nice things, then he trashes again. I guess he doesn't have "Intel Inside".

Btw what is this webhosting thing that intc is getting into? Is C. Barrett going to put on an apron, go on the net and have guests like Mr. Softee, discussing wafer arrangements for the dinner table for busy homemakers? Sounds exciting! Can't wait!!
