Wholesale Prices Show Small Rise in July

WASHINGTON (Aug. 13) - A key index of U.S. wholesale inflation rose mildly in July, the government said Friday in a report released less than two weeks before an interest rate setting meeting of Federal Reserve policymakers.

The Labor Department's Producer Price Index, which measures prices paid to the nation's factories, farms and refineries, rose 0.2 percent last month, less than the 0.3 percent gain projected by U.S. economists in a Reuters survey. That followed a 0.1 percent drop in June.
