Correct me if I'm wrong and your way is correct but I saw a tip a few days ago for the same effect.

Right-click on the Start Menu
Select Open
In the new window, right click on blank space
Choose new folder
Name folder- Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}
Press enter

Richard,

That is very slick.

Seems like you could do the same with other folders?

Thanks for the detailed instructions for putting Control Panel stuff on Start menu. The workings of Class IDs in the Windows Registry now remain a little less mysterious. Don't you wish Microsoft would publish more details about this stuff?

Use the Control Panel often?

Surprisingly enough, I adjusted my date to four digits yesterday, and was thinking about how often I used to use Control Panel when I first acquired my computer and how lately, I never use it anymore. Then the next day, you post about Control Panel. I checked my modem cable in case it was a 'Psychic Hot Line' or something like that, but it looks like plain ordinary copper wire.

Anyway, thanks again for the suggestion, PW.

For those who have implemented the suggestion in post 5125 on this thread, here’s some additional special shortcuts.

RJL gave us Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} for a Control Panel shortcut.

The same works for Recycle.{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} to give us a Recycle Bin shortcut.

A My Computer shortcut is a bit different. In Explorer highlight the location to put the shortcut and Click File/New/Shortcut. In the Command box, type the following command:

C:\WINDOWS\EXPLORER.EXE /root,,/select,c:
[The only space is placed between EXE and /root]

Click the Next button.

The default name will be Explorer. Change this name to My Computer.

Select an icon from the choices given and click Finish.

You will now have three shortcuts, My Computer, Recycle Bin, and Control Panel. They will be like all other shortcuts, permitting you to rename them, relocate them to any folder, put them in the Start Menu tree, or delete them.

Cheers, PW.
