Good article. Checkfree as "ELECTRONIC PAYMENT KING". The article highlights some of the strategic alliances, risks, and "enormous potential" and summarizes very positively. It was written on 7/29. The site is www.garpinvestor.com/checkfree. Opinions like this may be helping the stock price.

From TP bill pay FAQ's:

>>>>
Q: Do I have to open an account with one of the banks in the service provider list in order to use this service?
A: No. You can use the MoneyCentral Bill Pay service if you do not have an existing bank account with a MoneyCentral Bill Pay service provider. However, you are encouraged to use the service via a service provider because they can offer information on your financial accounts that is relevant to bill paying. The specific additional features vary, but typically include access to account balances and the ability to pay any bill you receive, not just presented bills. Consult with one of our participating financial institutions for information on specific offerings.

Q: Will I be charged for the service?
A: MoneyCentral Bill Pay does not charge you for this service, and typically financial institutions do not charge for electronic debits to your bank account. However, you should check with your financial institution on its specific
policies. If you plan to use a money market or savings account, you should also check on the number of transactions allowed each month. It is common practice to limit the number of debits on these types of accounts. >>>>

So, Transpoint Bill Pay suggests you use the system through a member service provider (couldn't find any, though), so that you can have Pay Anyone. This is concerning because it appears that Checkfree's pay anyone (I assume it's Checkfree's) feature will serve as a bridge until Transpoint has its own pay anyone feature. So much for that great defining technology we have. May boost subscribers and transactions in the short term, but does not appear good long term.

It is also concerning that the service is free. They may only have 6 billers now, but remember all those E-Bill contracts Checkfree has are "non-exclusive" deals. Transpoint may prove to be a bigger force than we give them credit.

Also, it is a little embarrassing MSN is up-and-running before any other portals. :-(
