Glenn you are correct. About 1997 I think it was that NN got the MCI contract and had a big push from ~ 36 to ~47 post split. I guess then things changed. World Com came on and somehow a quantum leap was made from ( mostly )hardware switches to (mostly )software switches CSCO & LU, Stratacom & Ascend. Small switches but then the networks were small. Those were also the days of Chambers' hard sell ( buy now pay later; try it for free ). I suppose in his expansive mood Benny and the Jets, Elton John, I mean Bennie Ebbers fell for it and ?ditched NN & TM.. Somewhere along the line he must have ditched also CSCO because now he wants to go 100% LU.(I mean until yesterday, GG, because I suspect that right now there is a lot of hand-wringing and teeth gnashing in the MCIWCOM Inferno and who knows in what contracting mood Bennie will be tomorrow, [or should I say contrite] mood ). Anyway, we now have the Baby Bells which are holding for dear life to every last piece of copper wire they got; are watching mamma Bell and pa Benny duke it out and don't know who to side with; they are watching intently and (hopefully) will learn something. So there it is in a nutshell Doug the story of NN and a switch called ATM. And tomorrow..you'll hear.......the...REEEST.. of the story, good night, TA PS: If I have made any misrepresentations ( very possible, GG ) please correct me. you saidTA if memory serves me well prior to the Wordcom takeout of MCI Newbridge was a large supplier to MCI. I wonder how may of the top executives if MCI are left from the old days (they had a great relationship with Terry). Needless to say I am sure the Terry, Alan and the marketing group doing whatever they can to help MCI Worldcom in their time of need. Nothing like a 36170-50 gig switch during these tough times.:-) Was that 99.999% hmmmmmmmm Regards Glenn
