Off topic - Japanese economy real story.

The following is a bit from an e-mail from The Economist (magazine) (I know they still call it a newspaper) for the 8/7/99 - 8/13/99 issue (possibly actually the 8/14 - 8/20 issue, if anyone cares).

Remember this tidbit next time you hear some "expert" on CNBC talk about how the economy in Japan is great, and it's great, and ... by the way -- it's great.

The Bank of Japan released figures showing a big decline in BANK LENDING TO JAPANESE COMPANIES, suggesting that the country's economy remains fragile. Outstanding loans in July by Japanese banks were 6% below the figures of a year ago, after sliding for 19 consecutive months.
