Sometime in 1964 Greenspan wrote in The Objectivist that we need to return to the gold standard. I don't think he still believes that. It is pretty cool that he was once a member of "The Collective" though. (An ironic moniker if there ever was one).

I am not educated enough to assess an economist's virtue, but the Nobel imprimatur means nothing. If a bunch of socialists are pleased it should raise questions. Also, wasn't Friedman instrumental in pushing through that evil known as withholding? My understanding is he was on a panel that studied the matter and concluded, along with his colleagues, that withholding would be a good idea. I think he has since lamented this decision. He attributed his decision to the fact that we were at war and needed the funds. I don't dispute that he has contributed much to libertarian thought.
