As an interim solution, wouldn't the rentable software first reside on the ISP's server? As you say so well, 1st Generation BB moves the bottleneck further from the network's fringe; it would seem to follow that the "software" move closer to the fringe ---> last stop, ISP,, before coming to reside once -- on one server for everywhere. :))

Until that time, the last-stop ISP becomes more important.
