flattsville,

<Are any of the recent or past difficulties related to y2k upgrades? -- On or before March 31 to mid-August is about 6 months.>

I knew you'd catch that. Maybe just a coincidence?

<Has MCI-WCOM been asked this question directly? What was the response?>

MCI has not uttered the dreaded "Y2K" word publicly. And doubt that they would. Official word is that they don't know what's causing the problem. I think they're trying to pin the blame on Lucent.

Here's an "unofficial" comment that I found in that link Cheeky posted:

From: Jorj X. McKie

Though I am not a software engineer, I do work in networking equipment industry. I didn't see anything that implied that the problems at WCOM had anything to do with the "Y2K" problem. They were doing a system upgrade that ran afoul. Even if the upgrade was to address a Y2K issue, that doesn't mean that it was a "Y2K" problem. It means that the upgrade itself or the procedure had the problem.

Cheryl

P.S. I wonder how many people on SI are on the MCI network via their ISP, but don't realize it?
