Kammer and Dad didn't come ~ thank goodness. We linked up with them in Lowell, MA, and rescued Nick ~ they had gone out to dinner, but the hotel lady gave us the message ~ and when we met up with them, Kammer started hitting Ben in the restaurant and my father just ignored it. When I told him to stop it I was surprised at the edge in my voice. Once we separated the next day, it was a big weight off me.

I didn't want to say anything about it before, but the night after I agreed to let my father stay with us, I woke up at 3:00 a.m., realizing that if a hit man were indeed after them, I'd just put myself, and my family, in danger. I tried to convince myself that his fears were ridiculous, but it still bothered me. And when I let Nick go off with them for several days, I told myself that if there really were a hit man, he'd have a very difficult time finding them, as my father never spent the night twice in the same state, and never made reservations in advance. On the other hand, driving around in a red convertible was very conspicuous. I was chagrined that my father drove straight back to my house after we left him in Lowell, because he is a very messy man and I knew the place would be left in a state of disaster. Fortunately for me, my mother came by and cleaned the place yesterday, she says it took 7 1/2 hours. She says she did it for the kids, but I feel like I owe her, as it was a generous and kind thing to do.

I was surprised that people who would take the time to try to see the eclipse, which was right there for them, who would actually drive all the way to the beach to see it, which indicates a level of curiousity and intelligence above the norm, would be so clueless as to what to do.

Ish, I felt like I was coming down with a cold two weeks ago. Turned out to be bronchitis, which then triggered asthma. I'm still not 100%. A couple of the carriers in my office were out sick with pneumonia. So be sure it's just a cold. Stay away from coughing Californians.
