Something doesn't seem right about the conclusions in the Stratford articles.

Has the PLA ever taken overt external military action from China soil against a strong force - meaning involvement in an actual war situation (excluding participation in Korea, Vietnam, etc)?

Hasn't the military leadership been more involved in business enterprises than military in recent years?

Isn't it vital that China attract foreign investment and improve export trade?

They're buying fighter jets from Russia? They have just recently 'tested' a long range missle? They have no tactical nuclear capability? Their Navy is small with limited missle capability? Their Army & Navy have extensive training but no experience against an opposing force? Most of the training is for domestic police action?

Why would they take military action knowing the US is obligated to defend Taiwan?

The Chinese leadership is unpredictable, but stupid? Loss of face from taking action would likely be far greater than avoiding it.

FWIW,
Ron
