I am holding a small short position in both Dell and HP (at the high prices for the day). To me HP looks like a good bet even with the good earnings. Not sure about Dell. In either case i won't be really disappointed if i am wrong.
Maybe Compaq lost a lot of business which the competitors are now picking up. I believe buyers don't like to be associated with a loser which is the image CPQ developed in the last year or so.
Maybe now the big gains could reflect gains in market share by HP and the continueing momentum of Dell.
