Hi Mike,

It's past 4:00 AM in the morning, so I can't make any guarantees about the validity or lucidity of this post. <g>

Two things you mentioned bother me right off the bat.

1) 1st computer running Windows 95 4.00.950. That's the original version, and should have a patch installed on it. Here's the URL for the specific patch needed:

microsoft.com

(You might have to cut & paste the URL)

I would also check out this site:

microsoft.com

2) NetBEUI wasn't listed as a protocol, so when you attempted to install it, you copied the files from the Windows 98 machine. You might have issues with corrupted files, since they're from different OS versions.

Before you do anything else, I would check to see what protocols are listed, and remove anything not needed. So if you want to run NetBEUI, remove IPX/SPX and TCP/IP for the NIC cards, as well as the VPN stuff. Actually, because of the possible corruption of the NetBEUI protocol on the Windows 95 machine, I would re-install that one as well. If it asks for files, make sure you give it the directory of the Windows 95 .cab files. NOT the Windows 98 ones. If they aren't on your drive, they'll be on the Windows 95 disc.

After that step, you only need to check off printer sharing on the machine that has the printer physically connected. Not much of an issue, but I figured I'd mention it all the same.

Sharing the drives...ok, no problem there, you got that done. Any special permissions setup?

How are the NIC cards setup? Are you going through a hub, or are both computers directly together?

Unless I'm missing something, the possible problems are:

1) Corrupted protocols. Re-install them on both machines with the proper source files

2) Bad cabling, invalid cabling configuration, or NIC's not setup right.

Hope this helps,

Rich
