Tenchu, A definite weakness, but as he says possibly chip related. Via? how many multi processor boards are made with their chipsets. One hopes AMD made the athlon to be capable of multiple CPU service. We are so close to the rollout that we expect some bugz that will be tweaked out over time. Remember, Intel had swarms of bugz .

RE <<This weekend I'll be trying to track down exactly what is causing the unusual performance anomalies as the number of connected clients increases, however my first instincts are pointing at the AMD 750 chipset.>>

Since I do not have a tech background, I wanted to get clear what Anand is pointing out. It does not sound like he thinks its the Athlon chip itself that is the problem but rather the chipset. I assume the chipset is made by an oem, and if it is not functioning well, is this usually the fault of the chipset design or the manufacture of the chipset or both? If it's a design problem is AMD the one responsible for correcting the problem? And if it is manu., then is it the oem's problem?

I suspect this stuff is pretty basic but that's where I am at with it.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Tench,

AMD will have a MP chipset that will be server tuned very soon (q4 probably).

Steve

PS.

I notice that anand didn't mention which networks cards, disk subystems, etc. he is using. If he is using the stock nix in the Athlon review system, that could be the entire source of the problem. It is my understand it was a rather 'cheap' nic and is not well suited to server performance.
