Does anyone know if Red Hat plans to do any contract programming for Linux? Seems like that would be an interesting source of revenue, beyond the service / support / shrink wrap plan...

There should be plenty of cases where paying for a custom Linux app would be cheaper than paying for multiple licenses of some piece of proprietary software.

Off the top of my head, say, a new airport that needs arrival/departure screens. Red Hat could even subsequently release something like this under the GPL - this software hardly gives one airport a competetive advantage over another, and since the code is available, it would be easy to maintain as their needs changed. Just an idea...
