MKW Entertainment giants in DVD blitz

Marketing Week via NewsEdge Corporation : Warner Home Video, Toshiba and Blockbuster have launched a joint promotion, backed by a Pounds 2m advertising campaign, to push the Digital Video Disk (DVD) format in the run up to Christmas.
The promotion involves Toshiba slashing the price of its entry point DVD player - the SD2109B - by Pounds 100 to Pounds 299. When consumers buy the model, or any other Toshiba DVD player, they receive three free Warner DVD titles - US Marshals starring Tommy Lee Jones, Mel Gibson's Lethal Weapon 4, and Contact with Jodie Foster.

Blockbuster completes the package by giving the consumer ten free rentals of DVD titles at its stores. The promotion runs from October to the end of December.

The offer is backed by a Pounds 2m TV and national print advertising campaign, which begins in October.

The creative work is produced by a US agency, and modified for the European market by UK agency Lipsync. The consortium of companies is looking for a media agency to place the ads.

DVD (sometimes referred to as Digital Versatile Disk) was launched in the UK in 1997, and in the US the year before. The consortium says the DVD market will be worth Pounds 56m this year and estimates this will rise to Pounds 150m by 2001.

Here is an explanation for inflection point. You blow a balloon and puncture it with a pin. The balloon shoot up at that inflection point. What happens after that? Some balloons fall down to the ground dead, some of them get stuck high in the trees and some of them get sucked by planes i.e. bigger companies ...

Thanks to everyone for all the DSL v. Cable modem comments. DiViT, I guess the really high speed stuff is only necessary for streaming video, so the "low" speed DSL is fine for surfing and general web stuff. But I guess you have to pay for the ISP separately, so @Home has some benefit in supplying the ISP. Do the @Home users at your work say the speeds go below the slow DSL (256K) during the slowdowns? Considering that .com says he averages 1.5 Mbps, it seems like a slowdown would have to be really bad to get below the 256K, no?

$35 is called DSL line cost.

An additional charge (a good price) for separate Internet access is offered at $20 a month at this site: emeraldnet.net

So it cost you total $55 with GTE in Seattle area for the cheapest level internet access:
256 Kbps Downstream
64 Kbps Upstream

You can get 56K modem connection through regular phone line for free through NetZero (also busy at off work peak hours).

I have DSL for about over a year. It often has much slower moments lately as well.
