Ratan: Yes, but at what cost ? At the cost of social and communal unrest ? I frankly don't think there's currently any party in India that can "solve the various problems and take the country forward into the millenium". A religion-neutral BJP is as phony as a secular Congress. BJP vs Congress is like the choice between Bush and Gore. :)

On the question of Swadeshi Vs Videshi: my bet would be on Sonia winning. Bellary is largely rural, very much the place where a member of the Gandhi family will fetch votes just because of the name. However, it should still be an interesting battle as the BJP has been steadily making up ground in Karnataka.. especially in the Northern part of the state.
