Interesting about the masonry. Never having the mortar hardening, I would have thought, was a Bad Thing. And do you mean it never needed re-pointing? I don't know what "tuck pointing" is if it's not just pointing. I love brick houses. I want a brick house so bad.

Yesterday we looked at a house I want to put an offer on. It's a split level, brick on the ground level, siding on the second level, which are ubiquitous around here, but the norm is three levels and a crawl space, some of the splits have four real levels, and this one does. So we could use the bottom level as storage, or workshop, there's a workbench in there already. Half acre lot, mostly level, a lot of woods in the back third of the lot, really woodland, but clear area around the house. Not in a subdivision, all the houses around it are much newer and much more expensive, which is supposed to be good although I don't know why. I think the owners of the fancier houses will look down their noses at us, but at least they won't be breaking in to rob us, and any burglars would probably go for the neighbors, rather than us.

I saw one much like it a few weeks ago, which Chris was interested in, but only a quarter acre extremely wooded lot and the trees were so close to the house I would have wanted to cut them down. We drove past it again on Monday, and I felt the same way as I felt before, I couldn't cut down perfectly innocent trees just to make a back yard.

So I like it that this one doesn't need me to cut down perfectly innocent trees. It hasn't been fucked up at all, it's pretty much original condition, except pretty new water heater, furnace and A/C. I mean the house is 30 years old and it's been taken care of but not remodeled. It's not my dream house, but last night I dreamed about living in it, and they were good dreams.
