I've noticed over the past few months in Investors Business Daily in the mutual fund section where the various funds list their top buys and sells for the period that Dell was usually a sell. An awful lot of funds must have dumped Dell and thus depressing the stock. Very few buys were posted. If the funds start buying again (herd mentality) then Dell should be back to the good old days of $1-5 increase on some days.

scott, RE: There still are a few ANALysts who don't have class or the balls to admit it when they are wrong and make rating adjustments. I would put Merrill Lynch in that camp. You can add ABN AMRO and Paine (in the assets) Webber to that category....

Exactly how were the Merrill Lynch and PaineWebber analysts wrong? Both said that DELL would probably report better than expected earnings. DELL reported better than expected earnings. On that opinion they were correct. The PW analyst's forecast in particular was very accurate.

Both are neutral on the short term on DELL stock because they feel that the valuation is very high in the face of what they believe will be a difficult 2H for the industry. Whether that opinion is right or wrong remains to be seen.
