AOL takes minority stake in TV start-up TiVo
SAN FRANCISCO, Aug 17 (Reuters) - America Online Inc.
<AOL.N> said on Tuesday it took a minority stake in television
service start-up TiVo Inc. as part of a continued push by the
world's largest Internet service provider to expand beyond the
computer desktop.
Sunnyvale, Calif.-based TiVo, which has recently filed to
go public, sells a box that lets viewers -- by recording
programs on a hard disk -- skip commercials and record programs
to be watched in any order they like.
Terms of the investment were not disclosed, but the
companies said AOL's interactive AOL TV will be integrated into
future versions of TiVo's video receiver.
Shares of Dulles, Va.-based AOL rose $1 to $95.94 in
afternoon trading.
