My read on the TCI@Home offer is that the cable company is using a discount to encourage trial of its fast service. Once the consumer has tried it, at the 9.95 discount per month, then the cable company will remove the discount and hope that the consumer believes he needs the speed more than the AOL.

I really think that ATT and Excite@home are having problems; i.e. conflicting goals and cultures. Remember the NCR acquisition and lessons [not] learned of culture; plus there are fundamental conflicts in goals (role of excite@home - content vs delivery vs sole-provider). Have things really changed. Of course, I am very anti-ATT; perhaps it is those 6pm calls from telemarketers hawking their goods.
