not to intrude here, but my understanding is that all the spyders trade till 4:15pm ET (possibly because the index options continue to trade till then as well).

everyday joe's (like us) should be able to trade till the spyders till 4:15 as well... it's up to the broker what they will accept. many online brokers tho stop taking orders at 4:00 sharp; it's only a matter of time (and competition) before all brokers get with the proper game plan.

Dennis; It does trade after the bell, however I have to have
my order in before 4:00, ( waterhouse inhouse rule ) however
I have had trades execute after the bell as my order is still valid
so if it's a limit order and the price goes past my bid or offer
it will trigger.
Say today had I put in a close on a short at a limit of
115 9/16 before the close it would have taken even after the
bell. They may not have honored it at 115-1/2 as it
could have stayed in the cache.

Some brokers may even place the order after the bell, if
waterhouse don't soon get up to speed on after hour trading
they will lose some accounts, ( some of the best ones too )
No way I'll stay with them if E-trade implements after hr
trading and they don't.
But anyway for now I can trade it till 4:15, in fact I had one
trade go as late as 4:28 ( busy day ), but I had it placed before
4 , what gets me is there are times I'd like to wait and do
a market order after the bell, and the way they have it set up
I can never get the after the bell move on a market order,
my order still has to be placed before 4.
