I guess you'd class me in the "lower-middle class" of the US now. When I travel, I'm just myself,, neither try to put on airs & pretend I'm rich, or poor and get away with not paying my own way.
No, won't stay in the first class hotels, I don't here, why should I there? You go somewhere else to learn about the other guy's culture, right? How can you do that in a place that imports the best of the world's finery for their guests?

What's it cost per night (American$ please) for what the middle class Indian would stay at? A decent meal in a place the local middle class eat?

Speak for a moment, if you would about transporation? Public recommended? Rent a vehicle? I've seen bunches of photo's with loads of motorcycles. I've ridden 200k+ miles over every type of highway, dirt / gravel road, cow trail, hill side. A friend from India said "were he doing it, he'd buy a used bike there keep it a week, & sell it again".

While these prices will change over the next year I might just be able to fit it into my budget next year.
