H James -- re: Japanese banks -- I have not looked into the deal yet today. Did you know that a few years ago Japan had 6 of the worlds ten largest banks? Do you know how they measure size? By how much money the bank is owed by their creditors -- that is the 'asset' base of the banks. Trouble is, these assets are on the books but the loans can never be collected and the collateral is worthless. Still, this is a step in the direction of writing down their 'assets' to market value -- about 20 cents on the dollar at best. Lets see how 'big' they are when the dust settles.
