The Missing Link

I'm looking for the following type of information...

Someone who has worked on a major Y2K project, seen
themselves the kinds of bugs that were fixed, and
can thus testify as to what, exactly, these bugs
were and how they would have been manifested if
the bugs had *not* been fixed. Not hearsay. Not
theory. Actual examples of actual projects.

For example: "I worked on Y2K remediation for
gas-utility X and found that 20% of their data
whizbang valve-control processors had bugs. If
not fixed these would have automatically shut
down, damaging the pipes and cutting power etc etc".

In short, I'd like to see case studies of remediation.
Maybe non-remediated systems would have worked just
fine? Maybe not? Who has this information? It seems
to me that understanding this is key to understanding
docs like the Navy Report. If most utilities would
have worked "just fine" with little remediatation, then
all is well. If, on the other hand, we know from
actual case studies that serious bugs are being found,
then we'd know that non or partially-remediated sites
do indeed present a threat.

Can anyone provide a link to such a reference?

MadDog,

President Clinton's top Y2K adviser, John Koskinen, called the Navy's conclusions overly cautious, saying they assumed that major utilities would fail unless proved otherwise.

Looks like the Navy has taken Koskinen's tack and turned it around. Koskinen is forever repeating the mantra "We have no evidence to indicate...[insert any bad outcome]". Thus, we are to expect no bad outcome because we can't prove it will happen. Of course, JK can't prove it won't happen. Given the uncertainty, seems prudent to prepare (JMO).
