I do not think anyone posted this yet.

sharkyextreme.com

Sharky's prices are a little off but still show the $10 per day drops on PIII that I posted a few days back. The ASPs are falling steeper than what Sharky says(on K6-3s but more so on PIIIs). Pricewatch shows PIII-500s fell another $15 to $289 in the last 24 hours. K6-3 500 is not introduced yet but the 1Ku pricing next week should give us a little better idea on where things will settle on this.

There are rumors of K6-3 volumes being strong helping offset the low ASPs of the K6-2 line (courtesy Whitney) but I can't quite tell where K6-3 got new design wins. Unless we see new AMD and Intel pricings in the next week, the prognosis on the quarter will not be clear.

Mani - Re: "True, but I have seen an Athlon! "

Where - and when - did you see this Athlon?

Paul

Let us do some very simple arithmetic manipulations. Assume that AMD is shipping hundreds of thousands of ATHLONS, SAY 250,0000, this quarter. Assume and asp of $400.00 given the bin speed mix that they have been publicizing or, at least guiding towards; THIS MAY BE CREDIBLE. Assume, also, that some of their other divisions continue to be more profitable. Golly, they might even break even for the quarter. GOOOLY, what would that do to the common? BUT DO NOT COUNT ON IT!!! A LOT DEPENDS ON THE INFRASTRUCTURE BOTTLENECK AND WHEN THEY ARE ABLE TO "BOOK" THE SALES ON THE VERY LARGE SHIPMENTS TO THE BOXMAKERS THAT ARE UNDER WAY AT THIS MOMENT; AND ON THE SPECIFIC TERMS OF THE PRICE AMD IS PAID WHEN IBM AND COMPAQ ACTUALLY START SHIPPING PRODUCT. WE ARE WAITING FOR "PIPELINE FILLING" AND, FOR A VERY REFRESHING CHANGE, AMD IS NOT THE SOURCE OF THE HANG-UP!!!!!!!!!!!!! I believe that there is a frenetic scramble in Taiwan to get MoBo's to the USA asap.

Of course, I could be wrong as I have been in the past.

Regards,

DARBES
