I have long entertained an hypothesis that completely different "lines" of humans result from voluntary and involuntary reproduction ~ that is, from matings where the parties chose each other freely, and from matings where the male forced the female. This discussion brought the thoughts back to mind, and so has "The History of Sex," on the History Channel.

I read something recently in "Nature," women were shown photos of men, morphed to be more "feminine" and more "masculine," during ovulation and menstruation, and asked to choose which was more desireable - they preferred more masculine during ovulation, more feminine during menstruation - the researchers hypothesize that mating with more masculine men is more of a survival trait per se for the potential child, but mating with more feminine men makes for better marriages, which is better for the survival of human children, with prolonged childhoods. They hypothesize that women may screw around with more masculine men during ovulation, but nest with more feminine men over the long haul.

Or, as I recently read in a Canadian paper, "Barbie comes with G-I Joe, she fakes it with Ken."
