>>I'm buying Amazon" - and then they sink half their net worth into the stock, not fully understanding that AMZN has become an instrument of speculative play. <<
Eric, your missing it. ML doesn't put their own $money into this mania. It's their clients $money. Do you think that ML even gives a shit about their clients losses?
When ML and all it's other sluts, have made a mistake, they just move on to the next victim, or hero. It's all about who the investors are betting on. Right or wrong, there's a commission on both ends.

I dread the day when I get a call from my mother saying that a Merrill analyst called her and advised her to invest her
entire retirement account into internet stocks.

Eric,

In defense of Merrill and Henry Blodget, both recommend that an individual place less than 10% of their portfolio in pure net plays.

I've never won anything significant gambling though

Eric, I played slot machine ONE time and that's all the gambling I have had so far. In a real sense, portfolio management/investing is what I am (and should be) doing here. I think that "investment" = risk management; I assume that I am correct and I assume that most should understand it too. I do admire your character in which you seek to help and protect the "innocent" by pointing out and expressing honestly your knowledge and opinion regarding Amzn(other nets). No hyping, no proving your points!

Ok, back to Amzn....I see a few options movements that worth mentioning: a. 2K Oct-170 call contracts(@$2 premium) were opened yesterday; the OI is 1139. b. 1K Jan-140 call contracts(@$15 premium) were opened with 1,497 as OI. By tomorrow night or Monday morning, we should have the updated OIs and I will report them.
