Guess how many times the boys have heard this story.

Oh, not more than once a week for 18 years -- that would make, if my math works out, 936 times. Pretty decent guess? <g>

Is this your first one you're sending away to college? Our first went last year, our babies (twin girls) go this Fall. The house is going to feel mighty empty.

Taking cookies with you is a good idea. I'll see if the twins are up to it.

I disagree that you should wait until Thanksgiving, but you don't want to be clingy, either. You and Dan need to be there for him if he needs advice or just emotional support, without interfering. I still kiss both boys good night every night, and kiss them goodbye when I take them somewhere, so I think it would be hard for them to be without me, just as it would be hard for me to be without them. Strike a balance somehow, but no artificial limits.

Jan.1, 1970, 9:30 pm, I got into a taxi, went to the train station and called my mother. I was headed to Fort Leonard Wood. Snow on the ground and snow in the air. Vietnam was raging. I had told her I was leaving the next day. We both knew I might be killed so I thought it best I just left. Sometimes you gotta cut it short and sweet.

PS I'm still alive, although some of my friends aren't. None of which died in college.
