Anyone tried this new Free Internet service from AltaVista?

microav.com

It's OK if you don't mind the banners that take up the top portion of the screen. Good for a backup anyway. Super easy to sign up, install and log on. I thought maybe the "always on top" WinPins might beat it but it doesn't.

I'm wondering if you could beat it with virtual desktop drivers that some vid cards have. Anyone have them that wants to try it?

i heard back from a guy who, as you pointed out, mentioned that this is a windows issue. but he also said this:

"One thing to try...

If you have an Iomega drive on your PC, disable its start-up options by removing those icons from the START menu|PROGRAMS|START UP folder."

now i don't want to disable these items. for starters i don't consider this to be a 'problem'. more of a curiosity. but it's questions like this that inevitably lead me to learn other stuff. <g3> and i do have an iomega jaz drive installed. do you have an IOM drive?

btw, i needed to download microsoft newsgroups anyway (i've forgotten how to do this since subscribing to netscape newsgroups way back when) so when i get there i plan to track down an answer to your blank space question. it's a good way to get used to the newsgroup searches and posting methods.
