wily, I tried two free ISPs this week [for backup]. I have and will continue to have MSN.

NetZero would not let me stay connected past maybe 30
seconds, repeatedly. Out it went. [I do not enjoy solving
that kind of problem. Had the problem with 2 former ISPs, but don't have it with MSN now].

FreeI.net gave me two local access numbers. Over 3 days
I could never connect to either one. But FreeI.net does
not even ask your name to sign up. I uninstalled it.

W,

I downloaded and installed the free internet service from AltaVista
microav.com about three days ago. It was a quick download and installed easily. So far I've got no complaints...outside of the banner adv. That's not too distracting. They tell you that if you don't click on one of their ads once every 30 minutes you'll get automatically disconnected.

I figure it's worth having it as a back up. What the heck...it's free:)

One thing I noticed is that after you load it, it has a tendency to interfere with your existing dial-up ISP dialer. I have to right click on my existing ISP IE icon, open properties and click on the "use modem" box, because my dialer switches over to a LAN connection (on my original ISP) after I use the free internet service. Might just be my set-up?
