Dan, yes that and most ALL "AGI" based items become an "added cost" when you convert. Congress was fair about this. No misleading was done, IMO. Congress gave the taxpayer (you) ways to circumvent this "problem": Skip the 4 year "penalty" by picking it all up in ONE year. OR before the October 15th filing deadline (assuming you have not yet filed and are on proper extension) recharacterize (all or a portion of) the ROTH rollover back to the old IRA account. Colin
