On McCain - another republican pro-lifer, I'm afraid. I have thought repeatedly on this question of "federally funded" abortions, and have come to the conclusion that those that oppose it, when they have no problem with funding other equally offensive medical procedures (such as death by injection, federally funded drug access - methadon, etc) must be some kind of sexists or something. I mean there are all these other controversial matters where federal funding isn't even discussed - and yet on abortion which is a legal medical procedure all these MALES oppose it. Gee, I wish I could pick and choose what my tax dollars supported just because I oppose something on ethical grounds.Consistently votes to maintain US policy prohibiting federal taxpayer money for family planning organizations abroad that perform or facilitate abortions. Voted repeatedly to prohibit the use of federal funds to pay for abortions unless the life of the mother would be endangered or the pregnancy resulted from rape or incest. Voted repeatedly to prohibit abortions at military facilities overseas, except in the case of rape, incest, or when the pregnancy presents a risk to the life of the mother. Voted repeatedly to require parental notices for the parents or legal guardians of minors prior to the provision of abortion services from federally funded facilities. Voted to deny tax-exempt status to organizations that perform or facilitate abortions. (100th Congress - 1988) Cosponsored legislation in 1985 condemning forced abortions, economic coercion, and infanticide in the People's Republic of China and the world.
