yup- i saw it. I thought it was better than the one with Irons. I think the pressure of making it in the 60's (pressure to tone down the sexual content) actually made the film much more powerful and the tension much more palpable. I don't know anyone else who has seen either one- so I don't know what other people think.

I saw the original "Lolita," and doubt it could be improved upon. Nabokov himself wrote the screenplay, and he & Kubrick got on gangbusters. The collaboration of two geniuses led to a work of movie genius, IMO.

The scene in which Mason (as Humbert) pursues Sellers (as Quilty) around the piano was priceless. And Shelley Winters as Lolita's mother!

Can't imagine why penni wouldn't have liked it...or at least, how she couldn't have laughed at/with it..

I liked him better as Captain Nemo.

Hi Z!
I'm sorry- life has been pretty frantic around here, and I really didn't mean to ignore you!! I haven't seen Lolita. I read the book years ago and just have never gotten around to the movie. But now with much more time on my hands, I think?, I plan to try to see some of those movies that just weren't family fare or that my husband wasn't interested in- (which is most movies).
