More from our friend S. Harmon on 9984 on why not one of his top picks ("gee, trades in Tokyo, so not one of my top picks!")...pretty deep, but in fairness, he does indicate that he's positive on the stock. On the flip side, I view it as a bit short-sided to dismiss a play based on where it physically trades (perhaps the same folks who would never drive a Datsun or a Nissan back in the 70's because it was made in Japan!!):

Also, a great post from "Choate" on the future of softbank from the same thread:

None of Softbank's ventures are risk free slam dunks. There is competition everywhere. The Nasdaq Japan Venture always had regulatory hurdles that very powerful players would try to impose to block competition from Softbank. In some ways it is remarkable that Softbank or anyone else would even attempt to upset the status quo in so many different arenas. Some of Softbank's effectiveness is in their political skill and public relations. They will not always be capable of pulling off every venture, but their track record is pretty good so far. Things may get toughter as the opposing players get to be better heeled and more sophisticated but we are really betting on the skill and vision of Son and his group.

Even the Venture to provide Wireless Internet Service could run into bumpy going at some point. We don't know what frequencies that Softbank will try to use and there are many licensing issues to resolve. Politicians may not want to be put in the position of blocking something that the public may really want (like low cost, fast, Internet Service)but there are many people who might want to block Softbank. I think that having an ally like Microsoft may help a little.

This is the big leagues...<G>.

Hello Malcolm, atleast one of the many 'premium' services I wanted Yahoo! to have is already provided by a 9984 invested company ... anyday.com; pretty neat ... maybe Yahoo! should buy them with 9984 nudge.
